About RVCC
Our Story
Founded in 1947, the Roanoke Valley Chess Club is the longest-running chess club in Virginia. Located between the chess hubs of Richmond, VA, and Charlotte, NC, we are a thriving community of players who gather to share their passion for chess. Our members span all skill levels, from beginners to masters, fostering a welcoming and competitive environment for chess enthusiasts of every age.
For The Future
Our primary goal is to expand the love for chess throughout the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas (including Radford, Blacksburg, Lynchburg, Lexington, and more).

We are actively working to secure the resources needed to host tournaments on a regular basis—whether weekly, monthly, or annually—and welcome players of all levels. With the help of our experienced coaches, we aim to offer even more opportunities for growth, education, and competition.

In addition, we are continually exploring new ways to engage the community, such as participating in events like the annual Festival in the Park in downtown Roanoke.
