Our Primary Meetings

This is a list of our primary weekly meeting locations, times, and a brief description of the typical agenda for these meetings. We can ensure that these meetings will always be properly stocked with enough equipment to accommodate everyone; no need to bring your own equipment.

Other Meetings

This is a list of other local weekly chess-related meetings that are not hosted by the Roanoke Valley Chess Club, but which we support in some way or simply approve of.

We cannot ensure that these meeting will always be stocked with enough equipment to accommodate everyone. We encourage you to bring your own equipment, just in case.

If you are hosting a recurring meeting and would like your information to be displayed here, please email info.roanokechess@gmail.com with the subject "Local Meeting Display".

To help you get started, we can also offer some rental equipment. Terms negotiable; scholastic club equipment rentals will always be free upon proof of RCPS (or other local school system) affiliation.

Wednesdays - Raleigh Court Branch Library

From 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM on Wednesdays, we meet at 2112 Grandin Rd, Roanoke, VA 24015.

This is typically our most casual meeting, without any formal events or time set aside for guidance. Just show up, find a board, and play some chess!

Note: the library itself closes at 6 PM, so we use a back entrance to one of the conference rooms. The door will be propped open, so feel free to walk right in and say hello!

Saturdays - Beth Israel Synagogue

From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, we meet at 920 Franklin Road, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.

6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, we host a separate section for guided instruction led by one of our resident Experts (2000+ USCF rating) and active President, Chase Bailey, for anyone interested in improving their play or simply learning more about the game. We encourage parents to sit in, and we also offer teaching material and other resources you can utilize to help your child get a head start -- no prior knowledge needed!
